FT: Have there been particular challenges as a
PM: I’ve been very fortunate. I’ve had very
good mentors and very good work settings.
I’ve been more fortunate than many of the
women I went to school with. One of the
biggest lessons I’ve had to learn is how
women and men tend to be socialized a
little bit differently. There were things I
was doing that I needed to shift just a little
bit to get a voice at the table, and more of
an opportunity to be part of the group with
pastors. I learned to step forward a little
more, to speak with facts and not feelings.
There were different things like that that
made me part of a conversation I thought
I was excluded from. Now I look back and
think maybe I wasn’t excluded. I just didn’t
know how to include myself.
FT: What are your hopes for the Canadian
Church? Your concerns?

reach people because they are people that
